Running on a stock QS 800. Ever since upgraded to 10.3.3 I've found that the icon representing the Network in the Finder's Icon/List/Column view will disappear 2-3 times aday. The only way to get it back seems to remove all cache and log back in.
Anyone else have this? There a fix?
Thanks.

There is another thread here, I think, about the same issue. It could have been at Ars. But have you tried it on another account to see if the problem occurs there as well? If it doesn't, it will help you isolate the problem as either user specific or a system problem.

I have a similar problem running 10.3.3 on a 17" PB 1.33. Sometimes when I start I will have the word network in the "computer" window but no icon. The icon in the sidebar is visible but has an eject sign next to it. A force quit relaunch of the Finder fixes it. The other really annoying thing is that it is not reproducible. It will happen sometimes but not other. I have experimented with different configurations in both the network pref pane and in directory access. What I have discovered so far, at least for my problem is: 1. it only happens when primary network is via airport, that is if I connect to the network via airport card, if I connect to the same network via ethernet it never happens. 2. It doesn't seem to change when changing any of the protocols in directory access. 3. this happened under 10.3.2, but by disabling the ethernet port in network pref pane it would fix it, this trick no longer works in 10.3.3. Hope this helps.

I'm using an ADSL modem on ethernet and have the problem. I got rid of it with the cache but will try killing the Finder. A lot easier than log in/log out. Thanks.
I posted earlier about corrupt icons in another thread. A different problem, one that has yet to show up here in 10.3.3. but there, the icons got corrupted 2-3 times a week, here I loose the network icon 2-3 times a day (just text and a blank above)...
I see that the combo update is out. Will install that, run permissions, disk utility, and then see what happens.

Problem just popped up so the combo changes nothing. But killing the finder does work, so thanks for that tip...

FWIW, I've experienced the same problem since upgrading to 10.3.3.

This is a rather old thread, but I thought I'd chip in to let others who might be experiencing the problem that they're not alone. I've had this problem since 10.3, and it's continued on into 10.4 Tiger as well.
Sometimes, the network icon in the Computer window of Finder (Shift-Command-C) will disappear. At other times, it will appear as a folder icon. It appears to be a purely cosmetic problem, though infintely irritating for anyone with the slightest bit of OCD.
The problem will occur on occasion without any apparent relationship to what I do on the computer.
Like mgehman, my problem seems to occur exclusively when my wireless connection is active.
The only fix seems to be to logoff-login/reboot.
Anyone have a better fix for this?

I have NOT seen this in Tiger... but,
the quickest Panther fix was to relaunch
Finder (or, have the "Computer" window
open when connecting to the Internet).
