The fine print - or CYA - says something about removal of some programs or modifiers. do you thin they mean Snax, Little Snitch or Mighty Mouse?
Is it perhaps more wise to simply clear the deck of all existing programs, do a brain wipe of the HD and then install the new OS? Life is complete with Pshp, DW and email...

They are referring to 'haxies' such as FruitMenu, TinkerTool, Konfabulator and the like. 'Normal' applications like PhotoShop are not as critical but it is still possible for an incompatibility to surface when a new version of OS X appears.
It always best to remove the haxie programs first, then do the upgrade, then reinstall them one at a time to make sure they still work and do not cause problems.
Of course, if you can take the time and effort, backup your data and do a clean install if you want. Some people swear by clean installs; others just swear.

Hey MS9 - Thanks! That may have been it.. Mighty Mouse, that makes your cursor look different, may be the landmine 3.3 ran into.
Cheers.

eh TinkerTool is not a haxie. Just an 'normal' program. All it does is toggle pre existing options.

I don't think they are referring to haxies, as haxies do not actually modify any code on the hard drive... only in memory AFTER the OS has loaded. You should still deactivate them before installing the update, though.
What they are referring to is something that changes a file on the disk itself, like directly modifying the BootX file to hack in a new startup icon or applying the "fix" for the startup speed issue introduced with 10.3.2. I reversed that before applying the update.

It must have been the haxie: MIGHTY MOUSE. My home machine, even with broken downloads, works fine. Mighty Mouse made the cursor look different, but I've learned that lesson..... My machine at my shop is having a total memory rinse.
Thanks all.
