In some of my applications like Mail and iCal, the open and save dialogs have resizable columns when using COLUMN view, but others like MS Word or AppleWorks don't.

Is this because Mail is a cocoa app and MS Word is a carbon app?

Or is there something screwy with my Mac OS X Panther install.

No.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

In other words Carbon and Cocpa are two very different code-bases, and for the most part Apple has managed to conceal the joins . . . but you just found one.

I have a weird one, in some Apps mostly Adobe ones like Photoshop. When I do a Save or export command and the window opens the sidebar doesn't have a scroll bar, if needed. Anyone else have this issue?
