theres a few video files that i cant do anything to. when i try to move or delete them, i get the message "the item abc.mpg" is being used by another task right now. try again when the other task is complete.

i tried renaming them and closign every application i could, but i cant move them at all. i tried searchign but couldnt fidn any results. please help, theyre an eye sore on my desktop. thanks in advance.

Open Terminal, and type :

lsof | grep abc.mpg

It will show you which application/process is using the file. Then kill the app.

the only time the file will show up in the terminal is if i use quicktime to play them. other than that, it doesnt show up (using apple + F). i really dont know whats going on.

No, open up the Terminal application (in /Applications/Utilities) and enter what pat++ told you to (replacing abc.mpg with the fullname of your file)

And you can also try the Terminal command mv.

mv <source> <destination>

I've seen that work when the Finder fails.

Try using Quicktime or another application, like Word, to save over them.

thanks for everyone's help. i forgot that i had a list of commands from my old ICS101 class. i just went into the directory and rm abc.mpg. again, THANKS!
