Hey all,

I can't unlock my keychain through the Keychain Access program. This is causing havoc on all my programs that require it, as if there were long timeouts, slowing everything down. I can see that the keychain icon is in the locked position and if I click on the Unlock icon, the pointer starts to swirl as if busy, but then nothing changes.

I'm running Panther 10.3.3 and have run the Keychain Access repair on it but there were no problems found. I beleive Apple's seperate repair utility was rolled into the panther keychain access program. This all happened when I updated w/ the latest iChat which seemed to install and reboot fine.

Anyone have any ideas about what I can do to fix this.

Will

I've done those exact instructions. But after I create a new keychain (which prompts for a passwd), I then lock that keychain via the icon in Keychain Access, then I try to unlock it immediately afterwards and get the same results as my problem keychains. I am unable to unlock them. It doesn't prompt me for a passwd or anything, the pointer just swirls as if busy, but then nothing.

In that case try a general repair permissions: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=152064 . Sounds like the security helper app isn't kicking in.

Bummer, I did that too. Though that article explains exactly what seems to be going on with my machine. Things seem to be running slowly.

And since I think Disk Utility only repairs files on the root partition ... I manually checked all the keychains files in my /Users/me/Library/Keychains directory and they were all -rw-r--r-- which I beleive is correct (read write for me).

In Keychain Access, if I create a new keychain, it appears in the keychain list as unlocked. I then immediately try to unlock it and the pointer swirls as if busy ... then nothing. I am unable to unlock any of my keychains causing havoc on my system (slowdowns).

login.keychain is the only keychain that can be locked and unlocked.

I beleive this is the root of my problem. Anyone have ideas why keychains can not be unlocked after locked. I know the correct passwords. I"ve run disk utility to repair perms (though I don't think it touches keychain files on the users file system).
