Anyone know if this ADB+VGA monitor will work with Mac OS X (10.3) ? The machine I want to use it on does have an ADB port.

I don't believe so....only mice/keyboards are supported I believe; however, I'm not entirely sure...

The monitor itself should work though.

Automatically? No drivers/hacks needed?

Just wondering...

I think it needs ADB to do anything over 640x480 though?

I think I'm thinking of the ColorSync 17" monitor which was the same form factor as the AV 1710. The ColorSync monitor didn't require an ADB connection since it was also supported for PC use. If you didn't use the ADB connection on a Mac though, you didn't get the integration with the Monitors control panel for geometry, brightness, etc. settings. It displayed a built-in on screen menu instead.

Hrm, well the Apple Specs for the 1710 do say it works w/ PC, somehow... apparently it has a DB-15 connector, which is not the standard HD-15 VGA connector... so first I guess I'd need a converter, too.. i don't have any machine w/ a DB-15 :-( Any other help?

The only Apple Mac with ADB and an HD-15 video connector was the blue and white G3, so that's what you've got, right? (The only other Macs with ADB and HD-15 were the clones, but those generally had a DB-15 also.)

Blue and whites shipped with a DB-15->HD-15 adapter in the accessory kit. If you lost it, they're easy to find, since basically nobody actually used them.

Nevermind the drivers, I would be impressed if you just found one of these monitors that still worked.

Yes it is a B&W G3, but my PowerBook 3400c also has HD-15 and ADB.

Cool, I will have to find one of these... still no consensus on whether it will work in OS X though, right?

Not to mention he's using Panther. No clone or machine below the B&W can run Panther.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

Not officially. That doesn't mean it can't be done!

Oh yeah, I was just thinking of desktop Macs... all sorts of PowerBooks have VGA and ADB.

In any case, the ADB doesn't make a darned bit of difference in OS X, because OS X only provides support for ADB mice and keyboards -- it's not even possible to write OS X drivers for other ADB devices!!! (Note that this incenses me, since I have an ADB Wacom tablet.)
