I recently upgraded to 10.3.3
I have a PowerBook Ti G4 1 ghz and a G5 dual 1.8 ghz.
In the past I have always networked these 2 computers via ethernet, and shared files via the ethernet connection. I also have airport that I use for internet access.
Anyhow, the problem is the PowerBook no longer shows an IP in the TCP/IP window. I have it set on Using DHCP and I have hit the Renew DHCP Lease, but it won't work. What is really odd, is I hooked up an external hardrive via Firewire and booted up on it. The IP showed up ok. The next time I booted up with the internal HD, the IP worked once, but everytime since it has been missing. I am unable to share files without this IP on the PowerBook.
Any suggestions? I tried repair and didn't help.

What are you using as your DHCP router?

I feel kinda stupid on this question. I have a 4 (or maybe 5) port switch. Is that what you mean?

Both computers are connected to the switch, correct?

This is your setup:
G5 ===== Switch ===== PowerBook - - - - AirPort
I think I see your problem: Your PowerBook is looking for a DHCP Server over the ethernet cable instead of over the AirPort connection. On your PowerBook:
1. Go into System Preferences: Network: Network Port Configurations
2. Drag "Built-in Ethernet" BELOW "AirPort"
3. Go into System Preferences: Sharing: Internet
4. Select "Built-in Ethernet"
5. Restart
By the way, if you only have the G5 and PowerBook connected to the switch, then you don't need the switch; instead, you can connect the two computers directly.

Hi,
Well, you might have fixed my problem. The reason I want to only share files over the ehternet, was I wanted to keep file sharing limited to the ethernet connection so hackers from the wirelss internet connection could not take advantage of file sharing.
Anyhow, I went to the Network Port Configuration, and the Airport was listed above the Built-In Ethernet. I dragged the Airport label below the Built-In Ethernet leaving the Built-In Ethernet on top and an IP address appeared. Sort of the opposite of what you suggested, but it appears to be working. I'll find out tomorrow when I try it again.
Thank you,
Buckaroo

If you turn off AirPort, you will lose your DHCP server and you'll have to assign an IP number to each computer manually. You cannot use "Using DHCP".
By the way, there's also another advantage to using ethernet to transfer files from one computer to another: It's faster than AirPort.
Good luck!

I'm not completely satisfied yet. In the past I was under the impression that file sharing would not be exposed to the internet because I tried to access it via the wireless IP and it didn't work. However, now, it does work. I only wanted the file sharing to be visible via the ethernet connection.
Now, I need to make certain that my new wireless has it's firewall turned on. I use to have an Airport hooked up, now I'm using a D-Link wirelss router.
