Well, with the update, networking actually works! So I tried with enthusiasm to copy a file (my main documents file, not OSX's main document file -- 350 MB of word processing documents and some photos) from my desktop to my laptop, so the laptop would be up to date. I did this via AEBS.

All was going well, until toward the end, when the "finder could not complete the operation" because of a certain file that contained some data that could not be read. Then it gave me an error -36 message.

I tried replacing the file with another (I had a duplicate, for some reason, in another area) and tried again. The same thing happened.

I'll probably just cut and paste and make a new document all together, but that's not the point. I want to be able to copy from one machine to another. (Althogh -- I think I'll look into connecting the two machines via ethernet or buying one of those synchronization programs, as the majority of the folder was stuff that hadn't changed one iota from the last time I did this.

But -- what does this message mean? Any one else experience the same thing?

And I'm still thrilled to have networking work again1

I've had similar (though not identical) problems when copying a large amount of files (over 1GB) to an SMB volume over my 802.11b network. The file transfer just stops at some point, and I have to force quit the Finder. I never found a way around it.
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

I didn't have to force quit -- got the error message and the copying was complete -- up to that point. Obviously, that doesn't give me two identical files, though!
