I am debating on purchasing OS X Server (non-unlimited client license) for my home business. The feature that I really like is roaming user logins. I sometimes use my Powerbook or the PowerMac and I would like to set up my Cube to carry my /home and environment to both locations when I log in.

Here's my question:

I have two laptop users - one never leaves the home (wife, not worried about her setup) and the other might leave from time to time (this one worries me). If I was to take the Powerbook off-site and boot up. Would I lose my home directory? Is it cached? Would my environment even be the same? Or would I have to have a local account in order to work off-site?

TIA.

Yes.

10.3 Server does have a feature called Mobile Accounts, and that will let you login on a managed computer with your network account. The homedir is located locally though (on each machine you log in to), and only the managed settings are cached.

- My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right.
