I don't even know how to search for this.

I took the 80gb HD out of my PowerMac to swap out that crappy 20gb in the cube. The PowerMac has a SuperDrive but the Cube doesn't.

When I boot up the Cube to a CD (holding C) for some reason the CD stops working because the swapped hard-drive is configured for the SuperDrive??!? Does this make sense?

Any way to bypass this?

Ensure the jumpers are correct to use either Master-Slave operation. It may be defaulted to neither one, but instead is using Cable Select. What happens when you put the old drive back in?

Well, I have since rethought my strategy... however, putting the old drive in allows the CD/DVD to work again.

The drive was on cable select, but in the cube the only other drive is the CD/DVD... so would it disable the CD because it can't read the cable select?

I thought it was having issues because the an installation of Panther was on the HD but now that makes total sense... it hasn't even read the HD yet and the CD/DVD doesn't work.

Kudos!

I would put the hard drive as master and the CD/DVD drive as slave. It is probably the cable select setting that is causing you grief.

The Cube CANNOT use cable select! (In fact, no Mac before the MDD G4's can use it!)
