Hello all,

I am new to this forum and was hoping to reach out to the members for help.

I work for a company that manufactures recorders, and our newest product uses the XServe with open source software as part of the architecture. Much of our client base are Police and Fire Department call centers, and receive federal funding.
I have heard that the US Government will pay up to 10-12% to have these sectors purchase equipment with open source software, but cannot find any information to back this up.

E-mailing the STOS consortium hasn't gotten me anywhere - can anyone point me in the right direction?

ANY help is greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

Steve

Where did you hear that?

The entire thing we call "The Internet" started as a federally funded project by DARPA (it used to be called ARPANet (or something)). ARPA or DARPA is only one of many sources of funding for Open Source projects others include the NSF and NSA.

While DARPA and the NSF (and others) certainly do fund OSS projects they also fund proprietary ones. If you are interested in getting funding for your project or product I suggest you contact them.

http://www.darpa.gov
http://www.nsf.gov
in general
http://www.grants.gov
should have all the info and leads you need.

Since your project sounds like it is related to "domestic security" in some way you may have an easy time of it.

If what you are interested in is finding info for marketing your product(s) and as a selling point... that your cutomers can get some sort of extra assistance from the federal government for purchasing your product(s), then I don't know where to start looking for that kind of information (except perhaps to google for it).
-DU-...etc...
