Hi.
I have an appointment in a few hours and I need to get my PowerBook going. It is a 667 Mhz book with DVD-Combodrive, 512 MB RAM, 30 gig drive, pretty much the original thing.
I installed 10.3 yesterday, because I wanted to use it while I'm on the road. Everything worked perfectly. I had backupped by stuff on my iMac's hard drive, deleted the contents of the drive and made it a Journaling HFS volume with the installer and then went on to installed it. I then ran the various software updates and then I dragged my stuff from the iMac back.
Everything worked perfectly.
90min ago, I woke up and wanted to check my emails just to get a kernel panic. I am horrified, I tell you, I need this thing running. I tried a few things. First, I just restarted, no way, I restarted the motherboard, no way, I restarted the PRAM (5 times), no way, I threw in my 10.3 CD and it does not even recognize my hard drive. I thought the hard drive was broken until I digged up my OS 9 CD and used this one to start. It recognized the drive and all files on it were in perfect condition. I used First Aid to check it and repair some minor stuff. I thought I had done it, restarted, but no way, still the kernel panic. I tried to use fsck, but I don't know how to use it if there is a kernel panic directly after the apple appears on the grey background.
In the meantine, I restarted back into my 10.3 CD to use First Aid there and I can now offer some more information:
The volumes is recognized there too, but does not mount. Clicking activate in first Aid does not help. Strangely (I think there lies the problem), the Journaling is shown as off in the panel, although I installed an HFS-journaling system.
I started in single-user-mode and there is the kernel panic too, but before it shows something like: File system size has changed, problem in journaling system.
It does show up in OS 9.
Any ideas? I need it, urgently.
