I'd like to be able to serve and connect to NFS on my OS X box... what do I need to do?

It means you made a post in that thread. The legend at the bottom of the forum screen shows what all the icons mean.

Only export shares to known IP addresses on your own LAN.
Do NOT export anything to the internet via NFS.
Your LAN should be firewalled from the internet.

Open port rpcbind (111).
