Hello. I have been having a reoccuring problem with my airport connection on my powerbook g4. I will be browsing the net and all of the sudden my airport status icon up by the clock will completley fade, showing not even one bar of connection. I will then lose my internet connection. After 30 sec or so my status icon will again show full reception but it takes about another whole minute or so for me to actually be able to access the net.

I am using a d-link router that I have wired to my iMac downstaris. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Is it a D-Link DI-614+ rev. a you got there? If so, I've seen this problem accour on two DI-614+ modells in the past. Experienting with the settings solved the issues on both the routers.
First make sure you have the latest firmware. Second check the preferences under the "Performance" tab. It should look IME something like this. (I don't have AirportExtreme so I have only checked it for 11Mbit/s TX Rates. It's optinal)

Just my guessing, but you never know.

Great guess sniffer. Your right, it is the DI-614. I will update the firmware, but what do you suggest I tweek with the settings? Thanks a ton for the help.

I have similar problems with my DI-624, exactly the same as you on my Pismo (which is 802.11b), even worse on my AlBook (which is 802.11g): the latter requires that I reset the router in order to get the connection back.

Yes, tweaking the settings should do it. Haven't had the need to reset the router my self. I've figured that the 614 might screw up the settings i.e. when you update the firmware, and loose the time settings when it reboots. The built in software in this piece of hardware is terrible, but it's very stable in daily usage when you've tweaked the settings a bit. I haven't had any problems at all after I figured out the settings. I'll recommend you to only use MS I.Explorer with it. On another D-Link router I own, don't remember the exact modell right now, it crashed if I tried to change the settings with Safari.
The RTS Threshold seems to matter a lot on the stability on the 614 - I've found "2429" to be the most stable setting on that one. The rest of the settings in the Performance tab "should" work fine with the default settings - PS: look over the settings, and read the help file provided when you click on the red help button to make sure you get the correct default settings. Resetting the router to factory default doesn't necisary mean you get the _correct_ default settings on this modell. Go figure.

I hope this helps.
