Did the same to my 500 mhz g3 ibook.
I did the update Tuesday night... after restarting it took like 10 minutes for the computer to partially reboot... but then it gets stuck just before the log on screen.
I suspect my problem might be that my hard drive is failing. I had it in for service 2 weeks ago and they said the hard drive was getting ready to die... so I ordered a new hard drive..and am having the new hard drive installed now.
I brought it in for service 2 weeks ago because the LAST update I did also froze it up...my solution then was to reinstall the operating system and start over from scratch....the computer works just fine until this last upgrade which again froze up my ibook.
You might want to try booting up with a Mac hardware cd and see what is says about your hard drive?
