I've got USB Overdrive and GamePad Companion sitting on my System Preferences. I don't use either, and I'd like to get rid of, them but I'm not sure how. I'm still kinda new to maintenance when it comes to Macs, so I need some direction.

I'm running OS X 10.3.3.

Thanks!
Mike

They're either in ~/Library/PreferencePanes or /Library/PrefrencePanes. Just throw them out.

In Panther, simply right-click on the icon in System Preferences and click "Remove"...

It's already documented in Mac Help, which is built into your system.

Note: You can also install 3rd party .prefPanes by simply double-clicking on them now as well...

The right-click to remove is rather cool, except for the fact that if the pref pane has a name longer than a few characters, you get the very useful: "Remove ... ence pane" or something like that - I'm sure it doesn't need to be that way.

I also found recently that you can have a look at the Ink preference pane even if you don't have anything to set it going - by opening its menu extra. Quite smartly, it realises again the next time you open System Preferences and hides it again.
