I am having trouble logging into my iBook with a network account that does not reside on the machine. The strange thing is that I can log in with a local account, then use fast user switching I can log in with the network account, but if i reboot, try network account, no go.
can anyone help?

Try waiting a little longer before trying to login at the login screen. My guess is you're connecting via AirPort, and I've noticed that network connections over AirPort aren't always available right away.

The AirPort problem is a bug we've reported to Apple at work. IIRC it used to work under Jaguar, as I recall doing logon over AirPort then.

I'm assuming your DHCP server assigns the LDAP server?

ya dhcp assigns the ldap server, what is most irritating is the fact that I had a 700mhz iBook, apple replaced it with a 900mhz model (), I used carbon copy cloner to back up my old drive, and restored it to this new one. It worked fine before!

Can you confirm you have the following option checked:

Directory Access > LDAPv3 > Configure > Use DHCP-supplied LDAP Server

?

Airport was set to automatic, I changed it to connect to a specific network, and now it works
