mac help quits while opening

I am trying to open mac help from the finder but it quits before opening. The same thing happens in itunes when I try to open ipod help.

have you tried trashing the preferences?

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.help.plist < not sure about that one

I tried repairing disc permissions but that didn't fix the problem
