Hi everyone,
I'm having some trouble with my iPod.
When plugging my iPod into my TiBook running OS X 10.3.3, I got the "Do Not Disconnect" warning from my iPod, and the battery starts to charge, but my iPod doesn't show up on my desktop, in Finder or in iTunes.
When unplugging the iPod there doesn't seem to be any damage to the files on it or anything, but I'm a bit worried by this development. What should I do?
TIA,
Mike

Can you confirm the following is checked under Finder's prefs?
Finder > Preferences > General (tab) > Check "CD's, DVD's, and iPods"

the setting that's called "Show these items on Desktop"? the poster said "my iPod doesn't show up on my desktop, in Finder or in iTunes" so that setting is not going to affect a Finder window or iTunes.
y2kerr, has it ever shown up correctly, or is this occurring since an OS update? have you tried Settings > Reset All Settings on the iPod? if so, what happened?
is it sat in a dock, or straight in via the cable? if dock, try just the cable?
lastly, have you checked the Peripherals forum to see if there's any similar problems?

Tried resetting all my settings like you suggested, but it still isn't showing up. I've scanned the Peripherals forum too, and while there were some problems similar to mine, nothing exactly the same has come up that I saw.
It showed up correctly for the first six months or so I had it, and has only started doing this recently. I did upgrade to OS X 10.3.3 recently, though I don't think that's the problem. If I remember correctly the problem is more recent than that. I'm not sure what the problem is.
Well, at least I can still charge the battery!
Thanks,
Mike

This happened to me before, I ended up restarting and now it works fine. Maybe you are as lucky?

i've only had mine a few months, so i haven't had to look into any drastic measures yet, but have you tried Disk Utility? i can't see why it wouldn't be worth trying.
maybe try asking at http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/ ?

What if you log in as another user? Or hook the iPod up to another Mac?

Tried rebooting again and everything's cool this time.
But the question lingers: What went wrong? And why did I have to reboot? I thought OS X meant no more (or at least, far less) reboots!
Anyway, thanks for all the help everyone!
Mike
