As every day goes by, my clock becomes gains 1 or 2 minutes on the real world time. By the end of the week, it is ten minutes fast. If I open the Date and Time panel, it resets automatically to the correct time using Apple's time server (the box is always checked but my clock does not seem to know that until the panel is opened). Any suggestions? I am using an eMac running 10.3.3.
Thanks

Go to /Applications/Utilities/Terminal and type this command (this command is completely safe):
ntpdc -p
then post the results here. This will tell us whether you are synching with the Apple clock or not.

Well, you're getting to a time server. The value of 377 in the poll field indicates the last 8 polls were successful.
However, your offset is 270 seconds, which means your clock differed by some 4.5 minutes. That's a lot. I'd probably have your logic board checked out.

Or even just the battery.

Seems like your internal clock may be going faster than it should be. I'd also have it checked if you're really concerned -- and don't take no for an answer. Some techs may think its a "minor problem," but I want a clock just like everybody else's.

Apparently this is an issue that affects some eMacs after updating to OS X 10.3.3. More info (but no fix) here.
Just checked out my machine with that handy Terminal command. To my relief, my offset was only 0.009275 seconds.

malvollo, could you post the text of the thread that you linked to? You need a pay subscription password to read it. Also, if anybody hears anything about a possible fix, please let me know.
Thanks,
