I've got TiBook running OS X 10.3.3, a partitioned hard drive and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive.

On the desktop, the first partition "System" is shown to have 4.3 GB free, while the "Show Info" pop-up says there's only 3.86 GB free.

Also on the desktop, the second partition "Data" is shown to have 950.6 MB free, while the "Show Info" pop-up says there's actually 2.16 GB free.

Last but not least, every blank 700 MB CD I've thrown into the DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive is shown as having a total of 670 MB.

I don't know if these things are related, or if the hard drive and DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive problems are seperate, but I've put them in the same post in case they are.

Any thoughts on what the problem(s) might be?

TIA,
Mike

the information shown on the desktop is not updated as soon as you delete files. you may need to log out or restart for the change to show up, though you can use the space if it is actually there (ie. if the get info command show you have the space). definitely a finder bug.

the CD/DVD problem is unrelated to the finder not showing the proper information on the desktop.

I think Panthers use of swap space may factor in here as well. You may have 4.3gb free on your boot drive but Panther is at that moment using some of it for its own cacheing purposes. See if you get the same numbers right after booting up.
