Whenever I switch on my iMac G4 17" (800mhz), the iTunes app automatically launches, whether or not I have my iPod connected.

If I close iTunes, it just launches again. When I try to shut down, it re-launches during the sut down process and interrupts it. I have tried disconnecting my iPod dock, still happens.

Any ideas?

There must be an app which calls up iTunes in background.

Also, make sure iTunes is not listed as a Startup Item in your Accounts Prefpane. Although that couldn't explain the launch at shutdown.
