I am running 10.3.3 and whenever I fire up iChat it consumes an inordinate amount of processor time on my 2Ghz G5, like 30-40% per processor at least. Anyone else experience this?

A buddy of mine noticed this behavior a while back. He said he seemed to notice it happen when people changed their status (mainly from "available" to "offline" etc). I asked him if he had iChat set to show offline buddies. He said he did. I had him un-check "Show Offline Buddies" under the "View" menu. Since then he hasn't complained about iChat CPU usage, so I can only assume that fixed it for him.

cheers. let me know if this works for you…

P.S. - On AIM my screenname is: osxrulz

Also, ask any of the buddies you regularly talk to if they have animated buddy icons. iChat only shows the first frame of the animation, treating it like a static one, but for some reason it is eating cpu cycles when dealing with them anyhow.

Kind of ridiculous that some poxy Spectrum 48k style annimated gifs(sprites) can bog a modern Mac down so much.. And with how many gigaflops of power!? Same issue with this kind of thing in Safari also..
