Occasionally, my computer does not recognize that I have a CD/R drive, When I press the eject key, it does nothing. Apple profiler does not recognize that I have the drive. Consequently I have to shut-down and reset the computer. I never turn my system off, I use sleep mode. Any suggestions on what could be going on?

Could be three things:

1. CD/R Drive - Your CD drive itself could be going bad.

2. IDE Motherboard Connection - The place where the IDE cable plugs into the motherboard from the CD/R drive could be going bad.

3. System Driver - Your OS could have corupt drivers or configuration files for the CD/R drive.

I have the same problem on my HP, but it's running Windows (gotta love the bluescreen).
