After upgrading to iTunes 4.5, the iPodDriver.kext file in System/Library/Extensions is still dated 9-24-03 (from the original 10.3). Is this the same file date others have? After following apple's advice to remove it and re-install iTunes 4.5? See below:
Symptom
iPod's disk icon appears in the Finder, but it does not appear in the iTunes Source list or in the iPod Updater.
Solution
To resolve this issue, you'll need to delete one file and reinstall iTunes. Follow each of the steps below.
Step 1
Delete the file
In the Finder (Mac OS X 10.3)
1, Navigate to /System/Library/Extensions/
2. Drag the iPodDriver.kext file to the Trash.
3. Enter an administrator account name and password when prompted.
4. Click OK.
Step 2
Restart the computer
1. From the Apple menu, choose Restart. The computer restarts.
2. From the Finder menu, choose Empty Trash.
Step 3
Reinstall iTunes
1. Connect to the Internet.
2. Download the latest version of iTunes from the iTunes download page.
3. Install iTunes.
4. Restart the computer after the installation has completed.
5. Connect iPod.
