can't shut down/log out/sleep/restart

	iv'e tried rebuilding all my permissions, etc... cannot shut down computer from finder, or by clicking powerbutton, can't log out or sleep, or restart. nothing happens. working on 10.3.3, ti 667 pb seems to have started after i updated ipod, itunes, quicktime. anyone else seeing this?
	I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing.
