i go to mac help in the finder menu. i really need it since i just switched to macs and need some help getting familiar.
it was working fine, but now it wont load. when i go to mac help a box opens that looks like a web browser (with a home and back button) but then immediately closes!
please help me, so i can move on and search it for some questions.
one more thing, i did a software update and at the end it said, optimizing hard drive volumes or somethign simliar and eventually ended up freezing. so i restarted and it appears the update was completed but i don't like that i froze in the middle of that process. any tips there?
thanks!

Some part of this should help ...

After any update .. Repair permissions: Close all files and applications on the disk you want to repair. Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and double click it. Then select your hard drive in the left panel and First Aid at the top. Then click on "Repair Permissions." It will take a few minutes.

i did EVERYTHING you wrote and everything in the link you sent. none of it helped since for the most part there weren't any external help files to mess with. i ran the permissions command too and still no dice.
i noticed if i double click mac help itself in the finder window it loads, but if i go to the taskbar at the top of the screen and try it it loads and then closes.
i also can't uninstall palm desktop. that might be why it doesnt work. i get error messages emptying teh trash after i sent palm desktop to it. i see messages like
"The operation cannot be completed because the item "USBNotifier" is in use."
and similiar ones.
any ideas? and thanks for the post.

as for the usbnotifier message - just leave it in the trash....next time you reboot, empty trash and it should go away....

btw in the software update its unlike that the Optimizing Hard Disk thing froze but it does seem to take an inordinate amount of time, next time leave it (you can go on working while it does its stuff in the background).
