Random shutdowns after QT update?!

I get random, complete shutdowns. It can happen in the middle of any operation - especially if I try to use email. Bang - no chime/cord - simply screen goes dark and a whole new desktop comes up a few seconds later (even power light stays on - as if there was not a 'complete' shutdown). I loose any modem connection and nothing get's saved. Any thoughts? ....10.3 and all latest updates - none of those little tweakers.
