I am installed 10.2.0 then ran the updater, but I get the blue screen of death upon restart. This. Any idea's? I need to get it back on-line so i can get work done. It's rock solid once updated and stuff, but getting a clean install uh scary.

The Beige G3s have their strange qualities, and there are seveal things you must be aware of to get OSX running on them. 1. The HD must be partitioned, and the OS must be installed on the 1st volume and it must be under 8GB in size - try 7.4 or so to be safe. Then the blue screen or a blcak one during an install usually indicates the presence of non-apple hardware or over-speced hardware, such as the use of 256MB RAM chips etc. My Beige G3 absolutely refuses to install until I remove all but the one 128MB chip I have, but it will use the 256MB chips fine after the installation is complete. Try removing all non-stock parts including PCI boards and see if that works. I would seriously advise the use of a PCI ATA66 or better IDE controller, they are not so expensive and the HD will be much more responsive, but running the cables to the drives can be pain, long cables convoluted routing etc. Post your results again so someone with experience can give you more feedback.
Good Luck

Ya, take out all RAM other then the chip that came with it.
I had it run fine for a year, when I had to reinstall the OS a few weeks ago I tried for a week with no luck. Got fed up and just slapped OS9 on it which is fine.

If that doesn't help, you should start in verbose mode (press Command-V during startup). Then you can see what makes OS X crash.

I ran OS X on it fine from Oct 5, 2000 until July 2003, then all hell broke lose. I have 3x256 and don't have the orginal 32MB DIMM anymore. it never had just 32MB from the day I got it it had 160MB, then 416MB in July 2001. I tried XPost to get Panther on, second try it gets to the Mac OS X screen (after first disk installed) but just hanges without starting up anything. I have 3 PCI cards in there, Radeon ME, OrangeMicro USB/Firewire (since X came out) and a Asanta 10/100 Ethernet. I use the ADB mouse/keyboard since it's now a server only.

What does verbose mode say?
What happens if you remove the PCI cards, all but one DIMM (if that doesn't work, try another one) and install Jaguar? If it works that way, you can put the other DIMMs and the PCI cards back in one by one to see if one of them causes the problem. Jaguar will install all drivers for the PCI cards even if they are not present during installation.

same problems here. My Beige G3 utterly refuses to take X. It has a couple of PCI cards in, and a G4 upgrade ZIF. All were removed and base Ram put back in to try installing X. No go!
I've given up OS 9 it is then..
