When dragging a file to the trash can a box pops up stating that the file will be deleted immediately. So my trash can never saved deleted files in it. I checked preferences and couldn't find anything that seemed to control this behavior. Any Ideas? Thanks.

This happens with files on network drives generally I've found.

It gave me this

rm: illegal option -- ~
usage: rm [-f | -i] [-dPRrvW] file ...
unlink file

The file size does not matter and these are files I have on my desktop and not from a network. Unless my trash thinks its on a network?

You didn't type in the correct command. There is a space between sudo and rm, a space between rm and -rf, and one between -rf and ~/.Trash

Copy/Paste the line to make sure you do not make any error when entering the command.
You should get no output at all... just the prompt of the shell.

Is there any possibility that your drive is full?

I managed to reproduce the problem... if you type the line above, it will create the problem. You then need to logoff/login and everything should go back to normal...
