I joined PlusNet yesterday and was using broadband yesterday and today. So far the modem has pretty much frozen at random times for no apparent reason on three occassions.

The System.log console message was :

The problem is that even when trying to do a diagnostic test from 192.168.1.2/ - ie modem localhost it doesnt respond. I have to manually disconnect the Modem port from the USB socket and then recconect it.

I also had a problem installing the driver for the modem - i got a

I tried to repair permssions in Disk Utility but to no avail. In the end i had to use Apples Generic modem driver which i suspect might be causing my problems. I really dont want to have to reinstall Mac OSX.

Using a G4 Powerbook running Mac OS X 10.3.3 , modem is binatone broadband.

If anyone has any suggestions i would appreciate any help.

Do you have this problem with all installer packages, or just this one?

Have you tried re-downloading a fresh copy of the package?

Since the problem seems to be the shell script and the file archive is probably fine, if all else fails you could extract the files with Pacifist (link in my sig). It all depends on whether that shell script does anything important (lots of the time it doesn't, but there is that occasional time when it does).

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I have no problems with other installers - its just this one and i tried it on my friends machine to make sure it was Mac OS X compatible. Also i downloaded several copies in case they had become corrupted but to no avail.

I have now got myself an ethernet modem but am still curious about what might cause this to happen in the first place.
