I've never seen a green highlight before in my .mac mail. (picture shown below).

Notice: I've hightlighted a email on another person and then the green highlited appeared right next to it- even it's different person, different email address, different subject words. Any idea why? Help. Thanks.

What do you mean by that? I haven't touched or changed anything ever since.

He means Mail->Preferences->Viewing->Highlight related messages
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

As Developer said. Its Here:

Just because you didn't change it doesn't mean someone else didn't OR that some bug happened where it "got set" somehow. Lots of my emails (especially ones with blank or generic sounding titles end up getting threaded together sometimes ... regardless of the sender)

Slightly off topic but I would respectfully suggest turning off the option to display images and embedded objects in HTML messages as spammers use this to verify email addresses.

Alright, I tinkered with mail Preferences-->Rules and discovered something. Old messages will retain any old rules unless you manually change them. For example: I had one account set to highlight the background pink. I changed the rule so that they would now highlight yellow. ALL of the old messages retained the pink background but the new ones came in with the new yellow background. To change the old messages to reflect the new rule, I had to select the message and right click (cntrl-click) and choose "Apply Rules" after which the old message then got the new yellow background. Try doing that with your green message ... it may have been subject to a different rule when it came in and just needs to be updated.

Interestingly, I don't think this is a bug. I could see changing such a rule, say, once per month so you could have a quick visual indication of which account a message came to AND approximately when.

Would you then have the option of seeing the HTML and images on a message by message basis?

Yes. There is a "load images" button.

On and off subject. JunkMatcher is a great spam filter that works with Mail.app. I wondered why pink messages showed up and then quickly disappeared into the Trash. The first one that came up was actually an Apple promo!! Now I know how to change the color or eliminate it. Although, it is so sweet to see that stuff go away right before your eyes. If you don't have this freeware, try it.
W....liar or idiot? Pick two.

FWIW, you don't have to change them individually, just select them all and then "Apply Rules" and it'll update all messages at once.
