A friend of mine istalled Panther on his computer. He had two internal drives in his PowerMac. Now after the new OS installation, when he tries to drag an item that is on the second internal HD, to the Trash, the item gets deleted automatically.

How can this be turned off? Why is the OS even doing that?

Thanks,

t

I know...same here.
This happens to me only if I connect to a computer through Network, but not with an internal drive.

Any ideas?

He got ths probelem fixed after playing around with the system a bit. He had to select the Ignore Ownership on this Volume option for that specific drive and now he can move items to the trahs without them being deleted right away.

Anyone understabnd why this might be happening? I am guessing somehow the permissions on that drive were not set correctly.

I think that is the problem. Just tell him to Get Info (Apple+i) on the drive and set the permissions to him, and apply to enclosed items.

It is possible with some scripting. There are a few solutions on this site:

But the problem described above is not normal. Basically he had two hard drives in his PowerMac. He just installed Panther (over Jaguar probably). Then everything he would try to move to the trash from the second internal drive (not the one he booted from), would get deleted right away.

You can get the same effect if you log into your computer as yourself, through the network from a different computer. Then if you try to move an item to the trash it will get deleted right away. But the Finder warns you of that before.
