Hmmm... "was hoping for an official demo on Limewire."

See I might have tried that lie when I was younger, now it's pretty obvious

Office 2004 is nice tho'. Well actually not THAT nice... I still prefer Mail.app and iCal to Entourage (whose threading is still janky). And Word's new notebook feature is absolutely CRUSHED by Circus Ponies Notebook. CRUSHED I say.

The project manager looks interesting, though because I don't use Entourage for anything else it's doubtful I'll use it. I've become somewhat of a Cocoa bigot.

Yeah, I wondered about that, too. Interesting how this trojan seems to be distributed by shady, underground sources.

I think Limewire would be the last place I'd look for legitimate software.

Really, who in their right mind would think a Microsoft icon is safe, though?

What I want to know is, is the 'demo' packed out to make a decent size - or is it a 32k applescript? I don't use that p2p network so can't check. Still I'm betting it was a tiny script, and the guy was just an idiot.

Really this is about the ease with which these things can be distributed with the advent of p2p. I definitely remember there being similar scripts for OS 9 - called the Angel of Death - or something, but without p2p distribution the best way you could hope to get that level of direct access to the Mac community would be by putting it up on to a public server, where it would be spotted pretty quickly. In fact sh!t like this used to go around the hotline and carracho community all the time, it was just ridiculously easy to stop, and too embarrassing to admit being caught out by.

Why on Earth would Microsoft release a demo on LimeWire, of all places, anyway? This guy was, to use their colorful term, a "warezmonkey", and we all know it.

Listen up kids; piracy is bad, mmmkay?
