Hey everyone.

I'm about to try remote access my mac at home from the college network, I know the machines (Windows NT) have an FTP client. I have turned on FTP in system preferences. What do I need to access, my IP address?

Any help appreciated

At the very least you'll need your Mac's IP address. If your Mac is behind a router (say a wireless router to share an Internet connection), you'll have to configure your router to forward incoming connections to your Mac.

You can sign up with servives like DynDNS or NoIP, which will give you a free domain name, so you can access your Mac using that domain name instead of its IP address (which may change depending on your Internet service provider).

And lastly, your campus network should also allow you to establish outgoing FTP connections.
