A frined of mine has ADSL. He send his mail around the house using proxy (I do not know much about proxy, this is just what he said). He has two PCS and a Mac.

His PCs can receive mail fine, but he cannot get if with Mail.
He set up proxy in the Network System Preferences panel, what else might be wrong?

We will need more information on his Network setting, not the software, but how it is organized.

Also does you friend need to send from one PC to the Other or is this mail exchange done from the "computers" in the house to the rest of the Internet ?

His your friend able to surf from the mac ?

Well, my friend is not an expert and he is only writing me emails about the problem so I cannot describe it really well.

He says that his brother the "sys admin" at home, and that he configured the network correctly. The PCs on the network work well. Everything goes as supposed to. His Mac is unable to get mail.
He also mentioned that his FTP is broken as well, so he cannot use FTP either.

Maybe this info will help you some more...

The app "Mail" does not seem to make use of the proxies, so therefore, it does not work. Other mail apps work for me.
