Howdy
I created a folder in my documents on the hard drive and then created an alias of that folder for my desktop. The alias folder is sat on my desktop and Im surfing a webpage and grab an image and drag it over the alias, the folder animates to say I have hovered over it and when I drop it appears to have gone in but if I open the folder its not there!!
If I drag the image and drop it on the desk top first then grab again and drop on top of alias folder it will go into the folder...
Is something not set right or can you not drag from a webpage into an alias folder?
Cheers

You're right. I just tested it in Jag, and it does just as you said. That is definitely a bug, and I would inform Apple.

So where do the files actually end up?
Can you do a "find" of your entire HD for the file name and let me know where it went please?

Since it isn't in the source or destination folders, my guess would be nowhere.

Well, it can't really be nowhere really... unless, I guess, the alias isn't even triggering the browser to DL the file...

Exactly. If it is appearing in a random folder outside of /tmp, then Apple would have a really unintuitive bug on their hands. I would bet it's just not downloading it anywhere.

I think its just 'letting' go of the drag. Like if you drag something over a application frame and drop it....
It would seem to be not recognising the alias as a viable download location....
But I am new to apple so am only guessing. Ive made sure all the permissions are set as well..

I tested it as well, running Panther 10.3.3. Same thing. Drag it to the alias, it lights up as if it might go, then when you let go it's not there. Drag it to the original and it works fine. Looks like a true and recreate-able bug to me.
A slight workaround. If you hit space while over the alias, it will open the original and then you can drop it in normally. Not ideal, but it's a start. Still something Apple needs to fix, though.
Another workaround: use a symbolic link instead of an alias. Safari seems to drag-and-drop to these just fine.
(To make a symbolic link, you must use "ln -s source target" from the command line, "man ln" for more information.)
