Hi,

I'm running OSX 10.3.3 and have recently been experiencing annoying pop-ups asking me for keychain access - usually by Mail.app.

It may have started - but am not sure - when I added Mail, iCal and Address Book to automatically start at login. I have since then tried to delete these start-up entries to see if that helped but Mail will still ask me for access to keychain. Very annoying as this has never happened before.

I have tried Keychain First Aid but it doesn't find any problems.

Could Mail have been infected with a virus or something - like it reads in Mac Help on my PB?

Also when I go in to Keychain Access I find 3 separate keychains - "Username" which is my name; "login" which is default and "system". "username" and "system" are empty. All the passwords etc are stored in the "login" keychain. Should it be like this? I'm the only user on the Pb and have the PB setup to automatically login.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with this. Not a huge deal but very annoying nonetheless.

Thanks in advance,

Nubben

It's not a virus, as of present there are no OS X viruses.
The Keychain will unlock automatically if your login password and keychain password are the same. When you first create an account this is the case, however, if you change your login password and leave the keychain password as is, then you will be requested to unlock it everytime you open apps such as Mail, Safari which require access to it. So, either change you login password to what it used to be or change the Keychain password to what your new login is.
Hope that helps
Ry

Also to change keychain password go edit: Change password for...
The one in question will be the one that actually has passwords in it, which sounds like it is the one called "login" on your machine. Is login the name you use to login to your computer?
The ones with nothing it them can be safely deleted.
