im indexing it....lol, i dont know all of these thing about mac, and its all microsofts fault, lol, cause of their crappy windows lol. anyway, its taking a LONG TIME, and i am just wondering what the hell am i doing, and is it worth the wait?

To "index" the hard drive means that the system collects information about each file for any search by content. Given that your hard drive contains hundreds of thousands of files, it WILL take a long time. You're better off indexing your home directory or /Users.

Say you indexed your Documents folder and you wanted to find a paper you wrote about, say, racial stereotypes, namely Koreans (for sake of example), you would search by content the word "Korean." The system presents the search results and your paper would most likely be the first hit.

alphasubzero949's advice is wise. Unless you want to search (text and PDF) files by content indexing is not necessary and then only index those folders that contain such files of potential interest to save disk space and time.
