ok, so this is the problem... It does not happen all the time, but alot of the time, the internet just stops running, and in network status, it sais that i am connected to the internet via ethernet, but when i turn on any program that involves internet (lets say safari for example) it gives me a server not found message, or not connected to internet, etc. anyway, i call my people that are my service providers, and they say that i am connected to the internet. anyway, i use a switch that allows my 3 mac computers (2 g5 1.8 duel, and 1 g4 powerbook) and at times internet works, at times it does not. What could be the problem.? thanks.

dont laugh at my stupidity, im new to mac

Do you experience the issue from the 3 Macs? I would check the cables and see if they are in good condition. btw, you"re new to the Mac, and you bought 3 at a time?

The next time you lose your Internet connection, see if the lights on your switch blink when you ping one computer from another. I once had a switch that would lock up on me from time to time, and the only way for me to remedy the problem was to unplug and replug the switch.

Open Applications: Utilities: Network Utility

From within Network Utility, select 'Ping' from the menu items. Enter the IP address of the computer you wish to ping in the entry box and then press 'Ping'.
