Up until early in April my network was working fine. Set up includes OS X Server 10.2, 5 Macs running Jaguar, and 2 XP machines. Suddenly one of the XP machines could not see the Server on the network though the XP box could browse the net and receive email and access the shared database that this Server hosts (FileMaker Server uses it's own TCP/IP connection to allow guest access).
Was positive that this was a sick Windows box since other XP could still connect. The first XP machine can occassionally see the network, not able to distinguish a pattern to when it can connect. Then about two weeks ago we had a quick power outage and the working XP machine could not connect to the Server for several days, that machien can connect again, all of a sudden with no changes by me (but attempts to copy the path of the working machine to the non working machine have failed!)
I am pretty sure this is a Windows issue since the XP machines are having problems seeing any computers on the network (some PCs on our network that don't connect to this server). But all information and suggestions on MS support sites have proved useless. Keep banging my head against this wall and occassionally sharing my workstation with a PC user so they can access shared files. Even stumped a certified Windows geek!
Simple set up, all machines have static IP addresses, no users have "homes" on the server, everyone shares spreadsheets stored in one location.
Any suggestions would be appreciated though they may be mute since I would like to set up the new version of Server, just don't want to bring this problem along! Thanks!
