I don't use X11 terribly often, but I do like to be able to use it (keep in mind i'm on os 10.2.8 right now).

well, I hadn't run it in a long time, but when I started it up a couple weekends ago, nothing worked... used to be i could just type "gs" to launch ghostscript and "xfig" to launch xfig, and "gimp" to launch the gimp, but no longer. now I have to type /sw/bin/gs or /sw/bin/xfig.

In addition to that, xfig has default colors etc. that you can set, but now they don't show up even if I do launch it.

any help would be much apreciated.

You no longer are able to access your fink installation is what I think you mean. When you launch X11 do you get the xterm window? If so, X11 is 'working'. All of the files in /sw were installed by fink. Have you updated fink? That needs to be done frequently. If it is fink problem, there is lots of help on the fink site for this particular issue.
