I've got a set of some design fonts that I am installing. The font types are either true type font suitcases (.suit), a generic font format that just reads as a font book file (and works fine), FFIL, or LWFN.

All of the fonts preview & install with Font Book with no problems, except I cannot get any of the LWFN fonts to read. Font Book attempts to open them, but nothing happens. Manually dropping them into my font folder doesn't work either. No program will recognize them.

If I do a get info, all of the LWFN read as a "PostScript Type 1 Outline font", which is correct, but Panther doesn't want to render the fonts at all.

Maybe true (I don't have a problem with it), but Font Book does not appear to be the problem. As I said, manually installing them does not work either...

What bugs me is that LWFN is a PostScript Type1 with Macintosh bitmaps and Apple proudly displays that Panther & Font Book support these type of fonts on their webpage. Yet I know a number of people for whom LWFN fonts do not work at all (including myself).

It's not Font Book but the OS. Some T1 fonts do not use regular Mac encoding so they will not display in Panther after the 10.3.5 update is applied. If you recreate the T1 fonts with Fontographer or convert them to TT they will work.
