weird icon & normal icon:
check out the keyboard shortcut for the force quit command. for some reason, the icon for the escape key isn't what it should be and i have no idea why. it almost looks hand drawn. when i log in as root, i get the normal icon so something in my user account is not right. does anyone know how to get rid of this bizzare icon?
edit: it's actually my apple menu that has the problem.

Or maybe not. My file menu has "Force Quit..." No mention of finder at all. My icons are the same as yours barring the upwards arrow (shift).

Three in a row...
If you have the menu open and hold shift, the menu changes, giving the above result.
I would say that it is normal, no need to change anything.

No, he seems to be saying that the escape combo icon is drawn improperly. It has nothing to do with shift being held down. The thing is, there is a marked difference in text quality between the two screen shots - the one with the apparent error (his user account) is quite blurry, so it's difficult to judge what's going on. The first screen shot is zoomed in. Do you have any local haxies/themes etc. installed?

yes, the icons are very different. the blurriness is due to using different settings for the two JPEGs i posted. the user account has no themes installed. just found tinkertool in my utilities folder though... haven't used it recently though.
aha!
apparently, that one icon in particular is being displayed in sand instead of lucida grande. solved the problem by deleting sand and replacing the user copy of lucida grande with the system copy.
