i used to ssh into my linux box with no probs. now i get the message "connection closed by <my IP>". The only thing that has changed is that i deleted my "/sw" (fink) folder and the ".cshs" config file that ponted to this path. don't know if that's what makes the difference. i'm on 10.2.8.

Neither of those should make a difference. Are you sure that's all it says? It sounds like the host signature has changed.

Use the "-v" option when you ssh in. It will print out all the debugging information.

use an editor and go into ~/.ssh/known_hosts and remove the machine name you are trying to get into. it's possible the RSA key has changed.

i have already deleted ~/.ssh/. after asking me whether i want to "really" go on same message again.

i will try the "-v" option later.

when doing the -v option i realised that port 22 wasn't even open at my linux box. so i rebooted it and: bingo. everyting's back to normal.
