Hello macnn folks - I've been reading for a long time but this is my first post. Great resource here, occasional rants aside.

After installing 10.3.4 on my dual-usb 2001 iBook (500), Safari is acting very wonky. The bookmarks bar doesn't show any of my bookmarks -- although they show up in the menu -- and indeed Safari won't even open a new window unless I'm tricky about it and select for example 'report bugs to apple' which opens up a window.

Also I cannot use iChat AV to do audio chats anymore; the audio menu isn't even there. People on the other end report signal strength of 0%.

Is anyone else having these problems?

THAT's exactly the reason why I wait with updates.
I got the same iBook that you have, so I'm gonna wait it out.

Sorry, can't help you.

Anyone good luck with 2001 dual USB iBooks (500) ?

Whew.

Well, I prebound everything, repaired permissions, ran cron scripts, restarted, etc etc, and then I reinstalled 10.3.4 and let the computer be while it ran. It had some errors prebinding some files, but they weren't safari or ichat-related. After that (Cocktail/Macaroni) I used Pacifist to install Safari 1.2 and iChat 2.1 (I had the updated versions before as well). Upon reinstalling the packages and restarting, everything is back to normal. Probably. I think the take-home message was read the install log. Thanks to Dan for a lot of help.

yeah, the problems I was having earlier had to do with me trying to open the wrong files; just an oversight. Pacifist works great.

Magically, the problems in iChat have returned - namely, no 'Audio' menu, and no audio conferencing. Very confused.
