How do you put in a carriage return into a fax cover sheet in Panther's built-in fax capability? If you hit enter or return, it sends the fax (the "Fax" button is pulsing blue). Without being able to put in returns, then you end up with coversheet notes that look like this:

Have you tried Shift+Enter? Works in many other apps.

Nope. Tried shift, command, control, and option with Enter and Return to no avail.

I've read that you CANNOT put a carriage return in the field. It's very irritating and frustrating -- and led me to purchase Page Sender, instead. (On the other hand, I was pretty pleased to be able to fax at all from my computer again! I'd given up. And, as I have a stand-alone fax it wasn't a critical issue for me. But yousave a lot of paper faxing directly from the computer.

Maybe they'll add it to 10.3.5 or "Tiger". I remember having the old Global Village fax software in OS 9. That software was so good that it would listen to calls that came in that either you or the answering machine picked up. If it heard a fax signal, it would pick up and receive the fax. None of this "answer after 2 rings" stuff where I have to tell someone, "Call me before you send a fax so I can have my computer pick it up."

This isn't a great solution and Apple should fix the problem.

You could type in your message in TextEdit and then paste it into the coversheet. Better than not being able to do it at all.
