This may have been covered before, because it's been a long time since I tried to make a disk image and burn a CD from it. System 10.3.4 no longer supports Disk Copy; instead, I am directed to use Disk Utility.

So - I put in the CD that I want to make a copy of and choose 'Images -> New -> Image from...' and select the mounted CD-ROM. I select CD master and it makes a nice file.cdr. But then, when I try to burn this image onto a CD, it fails verification and will not mount.

Did I do something wrong? I booted in the older version and it worked fine. It's not a big thing, but it does have me puzzled.

Instead of selecting CD/DVD Master, try selecting "Read-only", which will create a regular disk image. Disk images always burn fine for me.

CD/DVD Master is the correct image format, especially for bootable CDs. (Admittedly, most of the time, it will make no difference.)

Regardless, it sounds to me like there's something wrong with the burner or media, not with Disk Utility. Can you burn successfully from the Finder? iTunes? iPhoto? What about Toast (if you have it)? Or one of the various other CD burning apps out there?

I can burn fine from the Finder. I can burn when I boot in System 10.2.8 (the old hard drive before I upgraded). Haven't tried iTunes. I'll try a few more things if you guys say that Disk Utility should work as advertised.

Thanks.
