Interested in learning more about a new Mac then do this(in 10.3.4):

Search for "8,1".

in

/System/Library/Extensions/AppleMacRISC4PE.kext/
Contents/info.plist

I don't know if this has been posted earlier!?

<string>SMU_Neo2_PlatformPlugin</string>

So what?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

edit,

I did a translation of a danish mac site; www.macnyt.dk:

"The recent OSX update that Apple released called 10.3.4 contains interesting informations about an upcoming PowerMac. The excisting Power Mac G5-series goes by the name "Image" and the G5-cpu goes by the name of "Neo"

Apple identifies its computers in various ways incl. version'ing.. F.ex all Power Mac G4 models are named "Power Mac 3,x" - all iMac TFT's and eMac's are named "Power Mac 6,x" and the excisting Power Mac G5 is named "Power Mac 7,2"

If one looks in the 10.3.4 update one can find informations regarding a new "Power Mac 8,1" . The informations also contains the codename "SMU_Neo2" where "Neo2" most likely refers to a new version of the g5 cpu."

Now look at the first post.

June/July for sure otherwise Apple will get a steaming pile of critical **** on its head. I just hope they have the new ATI cards with min. 128MBs VRAM and stop selling systems with 256MB RAM. But that's wishful thinking.

I'm not buying a new Mac for some time anyway. I'll wait for PB G5 Rev B running Doberman (enough with cats, bring on the dogs) 10.5.

Something as big as Mastiff will undoubtedly be bloatware. Then again Bengal tigers get over 500 lbs. Really, there isn't anything as strong (weight to strength) ratio then a Jaguar. They can drag 200+ lbs carcasses up trees for Pete's sake! </ramble>

The eight being an even number usually signifies a consumer product. (Odd usually designate 'pro')

Reference to 'Powermac' is nothing special, all desktops are referenced powermac.

The reference to 'neo' is the code name for the 970 G5 chip.

The 970 will not be used on the latest Powermacs.

G5 iMac. Soon.

This is old news, don't you know - MacOSRumors has been beta testing a developmental G6+ machine for the last 6-8 months. They get all the latest hardware and software.

Sorry. Just had to get an insult in to my favorite (not) Mac rumor site.
