what i would love to have is some sort of mechanism with sets the dock to "hide" when i´m in certain applications of my choice, and unhide whenever i´m switching to other applications. let´s say you are working in flash mx or photoshop, where you´d need all of your screen estate ... so you´d want the dock to be hidden when you´re inside those applications. now you perhaps want to test some work and switch (via dock or app switcher) between finder and some ftp client. now it would be convenient to have the dock visible again ... (as i generally prefer having the dock active).

who else would like to see this? or does something like this already exist?

GAWD ... actually i wanted to post this in the software forums, dunno what happened.

OTOH, this could very well be a feature of the OS ... anyway, if the mods want to move this then feel free to do so and please accept my sincere apologies.

i've been using dockblock, you can find it at versiontracker.
it's not perfect, does not work well with expose, or changing a desktop picture (but only when set to disable the dock)

but it does have a dropdown menu of open apps. and, when i set it to disable first, apps like photoshop & indesign open full-screen.

a few times, dockblock has frozen, and i had to quit it from activity monitor.
but for me, it is well worth it to use the fullscreen on my powerbook.

i literally havent seen my dock in months...

Use the other hand. Or, if thats busy too, ask your wife to do it for you. (You dont want your boss to know that you are picking your nose, so dont ask him to do it at work)
